INTER RAO UES electricity exports up 7.5% in 2008

Moscow, 30 January 2009. OJSC INTER RAO UES – a leading exporter and importer of electric power in the Russian Federation – has summarized the interim results of its export and import activities in 2008.

The main export destinations in 2008 were Finland, Belarus and Kazakhstan: they accounted for more than 73% of all exports (51.2%, 11.6% and 10.7%, respectively). Electric power was also supplied to Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Mongolia and Norway.

In comparison with the 2007 index the 2008 exports increased by 1.43 billion kWh (7.5%), to reach 20.57 billion kWh.

The main sources of electricity imports in 2008 were the energy systems of Kazakhstan, Georgia and Azerbaijan, which together account for 96.1% of imports (70.9%, 14.2% and 11% of imports, respectively).

In the past year the imports of electric power under OJSC INTER RAO UES contracts totalled 3.05 billion kWh, which is 2.57 billion kWh less than in 2007.
