LUKOIL opens first filling station in Moscow under franchise deal

25 November, 1997. - LUKOIL on November 22 opened a filling station in Moscow which is run by the Silton company under a franchise agreement.

The station, the first one in the Russian capital to operate under a franchise deal, is built on the basis of a modern design and sells oil products, goods and services under the LUKOIL trade mark.

The station is situated on one of the city's busiest roads, in a densely populated district, not far from stores or large industrial facilities and in the immediate vicinity of a McDonald's restaurant.

It includes a filling unit, carwash, service station and cafe. It can daily sell more than 64,000 liters of fuel for more than 1,000 vehicles and offers a wide range of unleaded gasolines, Ai-80, Ai-92, Ai-95 and Ai-98, diesel fuel and a large selection of LUKOIL-made motor and transmission oils and coolants.

All of the station's units are fitted with some of the best state-of-the-art European-made equipment. They are environmentally safe and are equipped with reliable fire-extinguishing systems. The workers operating the filling equipment have been trained in Sweden, by the company which has manufactured it.

LUKOIL is the first Russian oil company to make franchise agreements. In less than six months, more than 150 filling stations and stores selling oil products have started operating in various parts of Russia under franchise deals with LUKOIL.

"Franchise agreements are a form of cooperation which offers our company large opportunities to make minimum expenditure for considerably increasing the network of filling stations and expanding the market for our oil products," said LUKOIL Vice President Vagit Sharifov. In the last three months, such stations have sold about 40,000 tonnes of oil products worth more than 76 billion rubles.

Silton plans to put in operation another eight such stations next year. The International Moscow Bank is partly funding the $20-million project.

"We are absolutely sure that LUKOIL, Silton and the International Moscow Bank will continue their cooperation," said the chairman of Silton's Board of Directors, Anatoly Sivak. "The LUKOIL trade mark, which will be used by this and other stations that Silton will build, offers a secure guarantee of the quality of goods and services."
