Moscow region
In 2004, AO MOSENERGO reduced the volume of pollutants generated by its power stations to the atmosphere and water basin of the Moscow region. This became possible due to the implementation of environmental protection measures and decreased use of hard fuels at AO MOSENERGO power stations.
In 2004, AO Mosenergo did not exceed emission limits by a single parameter at any station. Last year, the total volume of emissions fell against 2003 almost 7.8%. In particular, sulfur dioxide emissions fell 9%, nitrogen oxide – 7.3% (in the conversion of NO2), solid particles – 6.7%. In 2004, the reduction in the emission of pollutants in Moscow was even more considerable (nearly 17%). Emissions of sulfur dioxide at Moscow-based power stations fell 33.3%, solid particles—by 31.7% and nitrogen oxide – by 9.4%.
Last year, the consumption of water from surface sources reduced by 114.8 m m3 and from the municipal water system – by 0.8 m m3. The volume of water disposed by power stations decreased by 9.8%. In 2004, the content of sulfates fell by more than 8% and weighted particles – by 7.3%.
Environmental protection is one of AO MOSENERGO’s priorities. Every time AO MOSENERGO installs or upgrades equipment it tests it against strict environmental standards. In the last ten years AO MOSENERGO has never exceeded existing environmental norms while the emission of main pollutants at AO MOSENERGO power stations was halved.
