On March 2-3, Brussels hosted the Conference on “Energy Choices for Europe 2004 – Energy and the Wider Europe”, conducted under the auspices of the European Parliament. Stanislav Tsygankov, Head of Gazprom’s Foreign Relations Department, took part in the Plenary Meeting.
The Conference mainly focused on the security of energy supply (primarily, that of natural gas deliveries) while implementing the EU energy liberalization legislation, given its upcoming enlargement.
With this in mind, the conferees underlined the significance of fostering business relationships with major non-EU gas suppliers, primarily Russia. At the same time, the conferees stressed the necessity to build up mechanisms stimulating new investment strategies and bolstering new gas production and transportation capacities.
