The first five “NefAZ-5299” buses out of 195 ordered have reached its customer in Iraq. This is the first after war contract on delivery of KAMAZ Inc.’s vehicles to Iraq under UN auspices.
It should be noted that KAMAZ has never marketed buses in Iraq before. Until now, in line with a “Food for Oil” program, the Company has been delivering only heavy-duty trucks. Totally there have been exported over 4 000 units to Iraq within 2001-2003.
Suburban coaches for Iraq is a new output produced by KAMAZ Inc. and one of its subsidiaries – a “NefAZ” plant. This is Machne Building company from the town of Neftekamsk, located in the republic of Bashkortostan. “NefAZ-5299” coaches are special designed in a “tropical” version and have a comfortable interior with air conditioning, and heat resistant tires (up to +90˚ C).
“This is the first large-scale delivery after war, - commented Sergey Kogoghin, Director General of KAMAZ Inc. –We plan to ship another 20 coaches in February. A delivery schedule is quite tough, as this contract should be executed till May. If nothing happens, this is going to be the initial step towards our way back to Iraq”.
