Kamchatskenergo fully restores power supply in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

Moscow 26 November 2007. On Saturday, 24 November, OAO 'Kamchatskenergo" fully restored power to consumers in several districts of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky after the blackout caused by equipment failure at the 110 kV Dachnaya Substation.

The power has been fully restored to all residential consumers in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. At present, the temporary supply scheme is being replaced with the permanent one. Kamchatskenergo is undertaking equipment repairs and modernization at the Dachnaya Substation. In particular, the repair crews are installing modern microprocessor relay protection equipment and a standby transformer.

On 24 November, the transformer was brought to the substation from the Apacha Substation located 100 km away, where it had been mothballed since 2002. By now, the transformer has been installed on the foundation. In the next few days, after the testing is completed, it will be put into operation.

Also on 24 November, an IL-76 transport aircraft brought power equipment needed for the repairs, including switchgear cubicles. The equipment has been delivered to the Dachnaya Substation and the installation works are underway. The plane also brought a measuring laboratory for testing and commissioning the transformer from the Apacha Substation.

Also, an An-125 (Ruslan) carrier aircraft has brought a mobile transformer substation and eight switchgear cubicles from the Moscow Region to the Dachnaya Substation. The mobile transformer substation will ensure reliable power supply during the repairs at the substation.

The planes also brought experts from RAO "UES of Russia" who will help speed up the launch of the standby transformer substation.

The repairs are carried out 24 hours a day and are coordinated by the Operational Headquarters created by RAO "UES of Russia" to oversee the accident management process.

Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais thanked the energy companies of Kamchatka for overcoming the consequences of the fire at the Dachnaya Substation and restoration of the power to consumers in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
