Within the framework of the priority national program "Education" RTCOMM and UTK will provide Internet access to 2,290 schools of Southern federal district by the end of 2006. In September and October of 2006 "Southern Telecommunications Company" PJSC connected 1,220 schools to the Internet, which constituted 107 % of the planned work.
In 2006-2007 "UTK" PJSC plans to connect 5,414 schools of the Southern federal district to the Internet, including:
- 169 schools in Adygeia Republic;
- 230 schools in the Astrakhan Region;
- 1,169 schools in the Volgograd Region;
- 342 schools in Kabardino-Balkarian Republic;
- 189 schools in Karachaevo-Circassian Republic;
- 1,131 schools in the Krasnodar Kray;
- 175 schools in Kalmykia Republic;
- 210 schools in Northern Ossetia - Alania Republic;
- 1,115 schools in the Rostov Region;
- 684 schools in the Stavropol Kray.
The national operator RTCOMM has become the contractor of the state project «Provision of the Internet access to educational institutions of the Russian Federation» as a result of the open bidding. The largest operator of the fixed-line communication in the South of Russia "Southern Telecommunications Company" PJSC acts as the organizer of the “last mile” in the Southern federal district. UTK’s experts organize communication channels from RTCOMM’s regional access nodes to the specialized class-rooms in schools throughout the licensed territory of the Company, install terminal equipment, provide unlimited round-the-clock access to the global network at a speed not lower than 128 Kbit/sec.
