Russian machinery-building company Power Machines Group in a consortium with Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation (Germany) won a tender for reconstruction of the existing 12 hydrogenerators of Aswan Hydro Complex (Egypt).
In 1960-1970 the units with the capacity 175 MW of each for Aswan Hydro Complex were manufactured at Electrosila (member of Power Machines Group). In the course of reconstruction it is planned to change generator stators, to carry out works on rotors, excitation systems and auxiliary systems. Reconstruction works will last more than 6 years, every year two generators will be reconstructed. Reconstruction works were divided between members of the consortium. Electrosila and Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation in cooperation will carry out designing and manufacturing of the equipment. The Project will be financed on account of the credit granted by German bank Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau to the Egypt Government. Total sum of the granted credit is 85 million EURO. The main competitors of Power Machines Group were well known in the international power market companies Alstom and «Toshiba».
