Severstal sold 1,500 tonnes of 89 to 159 mm diameter pipes to Moscow and St. Petersburg clients. These pipe grades are used by public utilities companies for construction of new and repairs of existing water and gas pipelines.

The pipes were produced at Severstal joist web shop. They were hydrotested and certified for this product range.

The list of first clients include Moscow and St. Petersburg companies, such as Brokinvestservice Trade and Financial House, Dipos, Metalservice, Metalinvest.

In order to make new grades of pipes, Severstal reconstructed one of the profile bending mills of the joist web shop to produce not only welded closed profiles but also construction pipes to Russian and European standards. Over half of all pipes produced by mill 2/8 are exported to Germany, Norway and Baltic states.

Reconstruction and mastering of the new grades of pipes allowed to increase the shop's production by 40% in 2001. Expected sales of construction and water and gas pipes are over 70,000 tonnes a year. Of that 40,000 tonnes are construction pipes and over 20,000 tonnes are water and gas pipes.
