MOSENERGO (TGC-3)

November 22, 2002

TEZ -28 celebrates 10th anniversary

TEZ-28 holds a unique position among AO MOSENERGO branches as an experimental power station which implements advanced technologies in the power sector. TEZ-28 was set up in Moscow in 1992, on the basis of the experimental industrial magnetic dynamic unit U-25 at the Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The installed capacity of TEZ-28 is 25 MWt and its share in AO MOSENERGO generation amounts to 0.12%.

The power station has its own scientific-technical center. In addition to power generation and transmission in Moscow's Northern District, it serves as a range for testing new equipment. After testing at TEZ-28, new equipment is installed at other facilities of the Moscow power system.

During ten years at TEZ-28, AO MOSENERGO has tested the latest technologies including burning optimization system, hazardous air emissions control system and automated electric control systems. In 2001, TEZ-28 was first among AO MOSENERGO branches to implement the NT-410 heating pump unit. The production testing of this unit proved its high economic and ecological efficiency.

Currently, AO MOSENERGO is completing the installation of another advanced unit at TEZ-28--a steam-compressing heating pump unit manufactured by MMPP Salut. Previously such units were used only in the aerospace industry. At TEZ-28 this unit will be tested to run on water steam. A main advantage of this unit is that it ensures a high degree of operational and ecological safety. As a result, TEZ-28 is expected to increase its generation capacity by 15%. The annual economic effect from using this unit is estimated to reach 2 mln rubles.

In the future, TEZ-28 jointly with MMPP Salut plan to implement another innovation--a gas turbine unit MES-60 which uses a complex STIG (steam injection) technology. As a result, TEZ-28 will be able to save up to 30% of fuel, thus becoming the most efficient plant in the world resource-wise. The use of gas turbines helps to improve ecological indicators. The company will significantly reduce emission of pollutants. By various estimates, after implementing MES-60, AO MOSENERGO will make a true breakthrough in the power industry and reach a new technological level.
