The Gazprom Headquarters today hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Dimitrios Copelouzos, Managing Director of the Russian-Greek joint venture Prometheus Gas S.A.

The parties discussed plans and prospects for further cooperation in natural gas supplies to the Greek market.

In addition, discussion centered on potential interaction between the companies within projects aimed at developing new transnational gas transmission capacities, in particular the South Stream gas pipeline.

Background:

Russian natural gas is supplied to Greece under the Intergovernmental Agreement of October 7, 1987 as well as the associated Contract signed between Soyuzgazexport (currently – Gazprom export) and the Greek State Gas Corporation DEPA.  The Contract is effective till 2016 and envisages the possibility of being extended. In 2007 Gazprom export supplied Greece with nearly 3.14 bcm of gas.

Prometheus Gas S.A. is a Russian-Greek joint venture with shareholdings equally split between Gazprom export and the Copelouzos Bros. Group Ltd. Prometheus Gas was established in 1991 to promote the cooperation between Russia and Greece in the gas sector. Prometheus Gas is engaged in the construction of a number of energy facilities in Greece.
