Moscow, 19 May 2006. Today Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais will chair the 29th Meeting of the CIS Electric Power Council in St.-Petersburg.
Among the items on the agenda: discussion of the performance of the CIS energy systems during the 2005-2006 autumn/winter period; plan of measures to increase the transmission capacity of cross-border electricity links, and the development of principles for interaction among the System Operators of the CIS energy systems.
The meeting participants also expect to consider a number of joint actions to be taken by the CIS EPS and EURELECTRIC to implement Roadmaps for convergence of market and environment situations in the EU and CIS.

* The CIS Electric Power Council was created on 14 February 1992. The primary objective of CIS EPC is to coordinate the efforts to ensure stable and reliable power to industries and households of the CIS Member States through enhanced efficiency of the interconnected electricity systems. The CIS Electric Power Council consists of the CEOs of electricity companies representing the CIS Member States: Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Georgia, Republic of Kazakhstan, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.
Chairman of the Management Board of RAO "UES of Russia" Anatoly Chubais has been President of the CIS Electric Power Council since 2000.
