JSC Stantsiya Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 sets record in power generation

Ekibastuz, 11 December 2008. On Friday, 5 December 2008, JSC Stantsiya Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 power station recorded the highest output of electric power since the beginning of year – 5650 mln kWh.

Before that, the station's maximum output of electric power was recorded in 2004 at 5649m kWh.

Before the year is out, the station plans to have generated another 350 mln kWh of electric power, with output to total 6 billion kWh, setting an all-time record in power generation for the entire period of the station’s operation since 1990.

The improvement in the reliability of equipment performance at JSC Stantsiya Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 is a result of the implementation of the Upgrading Programme approved and accepted for implementation by the company's shareholders, JSC Samruk-Energo and OJSC INTER RAO UES, which provided funding for it.

The 2009 plans provide for the implementation of the most ambitious project under the Programme: the replacement of four E-precipitators. Once implemented, this project will make it possible not only to dramatically reduce wear and tear on the flue-gas fans but also to cut the cost of ash emissions, which is of great importance for a station burning high-ash coal.

The funding for the Upgrading Programme is provided using the credit facilities made available by the Eurasian Development Bank for a term of 10 years.

JSC Stantsiya Ekibastuzskaya GRES-2 is a joint power venture of Kazakhstan and Russia, which is located in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan and has installed capacity of 1,000 MW.

The company represents the interests of two largest members of the Russian and Kazakhstan power markets: OJSC INTER RAO UES (Russia) and JSC Samruk-Energo (Kazakhstan), holding 50% of shares each.
