On working meeting between Alexey Miller and Connie Hedegaard

Today Gazprom Headquarters hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom Management Committee and Connie Hedegaard, Climate and Energy Minister of Denmark.

The parties discussed the possibilities for the cooperation development between Gazprom and Danish energy companies, including in the gas and energy saving and highlighted a significant potential for successful implementation of joint projects.

The parties expressed a unanimous opinion that early construction of the Nord Stream pipeline which, inter alia, was designed for gas supply to Danish DONG Energy, would contribute significantly to higher security of energy supply to Europe.

Background:

Denmark produces oil and gas in the North Sea and is a net exporter of hydrocarbon feedstock. In 2007 Denmark produced 10 billion cubic meters of gas, while the sales volume reached 8 billion cubic meters.

DONG Energy is the largest energy company of Denmark. It was established in 2006 after a merger of six companies dealing with oil and gas production and electric power generation.

Nowadays DONG Energy is mainly engaged in energy production, distribution, marketing and supply to North European consumers. The company has ownership interests in the Ormen Lange field and Langeled pipeline.

In 2006 Gazprom and DONG Energy signed the Agreement on Russian gas supplies to Denmark via the Nord Stream pipeline.

Pursuant to the document Denmark, starting from 2001, will annually purchase one billion cubic meters of Russian gas during a period of 20 years. The Agreement also provides for a possible increase in annual supplies.
