Moscow, 5 April 2005. According to the most recent updates, in the first quarter of 2005, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation of electricity by 3% to 187.8 billion kWh from 182.2 billion kWh in Q1 2004.
The increased generation of electricity by RAO UES power plants made it possible to meet the growing consumption in the country, 259.9 billion kWh in Q1 2005, up 1.8% from 255.3 billion kWh in Q1 2004.
In March 2005, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" generated 63.2 billion kWh of electricity, up 7.1% on March last year. In March, the output of the thermal power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" amounted to 52.8 billion kWh, which represents an increase of 7.5% over the same period last year. The hydroelectric power plants generated 10.4 billion kWh, up 5.1% in year-on-year terms.
The country's electricity consumption in March this year amounted to 87 billion kWh, which is 4.4% more than in March 2004 (83.3 billion kWh). This was due to the fact that average daily temperatures were 3.5°C lower than in March 2004.
