First power unit brought on line at Ivanovskiye PGU

Moscow, 20 May 2008. Today, the first power unit was put into operation at Ivanovskiye PGU in the city of Komsomolsk, Ivanovo Region. Ivanovskiye PGU is Russia's first combined-cycle power plant built using only Russian-made equipment.

The official ceremony was attended by Ivanovo Region Governor Mikhail Men, Yaroslavl Region Governor Sergey Vakhrukov, Chairman of the RAO UES Management Board Anatoly Chubais, and Chairman of the Management Board of OJSC INTER RAO UES Evgeniy Dod.

Ivanovskiye PGU is the first power plant in Russia to be built under the investment program of RAO UES of Russia. The core of the facility is formed by a 325 MW combined-cycle power unit, PGU-325, developed by Russian companies with the involvement of Russia's major power manufacturers, OAO "NPO Saturn", OAO "Power Machines", and OAO "ZiO-Podolsk Machine-Building Plant". Power Machines manufactured one steam turbine and three generators, and ZiO-Podolsk made two boilers, and NPO Saturn produced the gas turbine, GTE-110. VO Tekhnopromexport is the general contractor for the project.

The main unit of Ivanovskiye PGU is used to fully develop the new technologies and energy equipment which will be used in the future to modernize Russia's power plants.

Combined-cycle technologies of electricity generation are widely used across the world. This is explained by their high economic and operational efficiency and environment friendliness. The fuel efficiency at such units is as high as 51 percent, while most CHPPs in Russia have an efficiency of 35-38 percent. The technology helps reduce gas consumption by a third. Moreover, the power plant's nitrogen oxide emission level is 50 mg/mm3, which is twice as low as that of other gas-fuelled power plants.
