Gazprom’s delegation visits Canada

On March 13-15 Gazprom’s delegation led by Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman has paid a working visit to Canada.

Within the visit Alexey Miller met with David Emerson, Canadian Minister of International Trade, Lawrence Cannon, Canadian Minister of Transport, Infrastructure & Communications, Loyola Hearn, Canadian Minister of Fisheries & Oceans as well as the top management of Canada’s oil & gas companies Petro-Canada and TransCanada.

The parties discussed the prospects for cooperation between Russia and Canada in the oil & gas sector, pondering, in particular, on possible ways of implementing joint projects for liquefied natural gas production and supply to the North American market.

In the course of the visit Alexey Miller and Ron Brenneman, Petro-Canada’s President and Chief Executive Officer signed an Agreement on Cooperation within the Baltic LNG project.

The Agreement stipulates further studies of the project development options. For these purposes, the parties plan to step up a number of actions including the preparation of engineering documentation for a Leningrad region-based LNG plant.

The parties expressed a common opinion that developing the long-term cooperation had a vast potential given the experience, professionalism and reliable technology of both companies in the oil & gas sector.

Reference:

Being one of the world’s pace-setting oil and gas production countries, Canada is the world’s third-largest natural gas producer (183.6 bcm in 2004) after the USA and Russia, and the second-largest gas exporter (102.1 bcm) after Russia. With its oil and gas industry oriented towards exports, Canada is the top international hydrocarbon supplier to the USA.

Petro-Canada is the largest Canadian petroleum firm active both on the domestic and foreign markets. The company prospects for and extracts natural gas in Western Canada and US Cordillera as well as sells it in North America.

TransCanada is Canada’s leading energy infrastructure company transmitting natural gas and LNG to the key markets of Canada and the US.
