Moscow, 13 May 2008. Over the first four months of 2008, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation of electricity by 5.6% year-on-year to 263.8 billion kWh from 249.9 billion kWh.
The average ambient air temperatures were higher this winter than the long-term averages, but the energy consumption across Russia grew 4.7 percent over the past four months to 364.8 billion kWh.
The increased electricity demand was largely met by the RAO UES thermal power plants. Over the four months of 2008, generation by the TPPs increased by 10.1 percent. This helped compensate the decrease in hydropower generation due to the unfavourable hydrological situation in the river basins of the Angara-Yenisey chain of HPPs.
In April 2008, the power plants of RAO "UES of Russia" increased generation by 3.2 percent. Despite the fact that the average ambient air temperatures were 4.3 degrees above the norm in April, the country's electricity consumption grew by 2.6%.
