In pursuance of the federal laws, in 2005 the function of electricity sales in the territory of the Orel Region was transferred to Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES. The Branch started its independent activity in the power market on October 1, 2005.

Today Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES represents a consistently developing structure which ensures 35.7% of power consumption of the region and provides services to consumers in 6 cities and 17 district centers of the region.

For the two years of its existence the Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES has reached substantial results, managing to supply electric power to consumers without failures. This fact allowed the company to preserve partnership relations with the clients and to attract new consumers.

The company is one of the largest suppliers of electric power to industrial enterprises and budget organizations in the Orel Region. However, the principal clients of the branch are residential customers.

The Orel Branch supplies power to 194 thousand individuals and more than 4 thousand entities in the city of Orel and in the Orel Region. In addition, the Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES provides electricity to the objects of social sphere in the region which imposes additional social commitments on the company.

In 2006 more than 624.57 million KWh of electric power was supplied to consumers.

An important event in the activity of the Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES is the company’s acquiring a status of a supplier of last resort in the territory of the Orel Oblast (in accordance with Regulation of the Government of the Russian Federation dated August 31, 2006 No. 530 “On Approval of the Rules of Functioning of Retail Power Markets During the Transition Period of Power Sector Restructuring”).

Next year will substantially change the activity of the Orel Branch of JSC INTER RAO UES. From January 1, 2008 the Branch will be purchasing electric power for its consumers in the wholesale power (capacity) market.
