On February 9, 2006, Rosneft took first place at auctions for the oil and gas exploration and production rights at the Tukolandsky, Vadinsky and Pendomayakhsky prospective oil-and-gas areas in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, held in Krasnoyarsk and Moscow.
Rosneft offered 429 million rubles for the Tukolandsky site, 2,118 million rubles for the Vadinsky site, and the Pendomayakhsky site was acquired for 2,828 million rubles.
According to Rosneft expert estimates, predicted recoverable reserves at the Tukolandsky site with an area of 678 sq.km. comprise 23.2 million tons, and at the Vadinsky site (778 sq.km.) — 14.4 million tons. The sites are located in the Evenkia Autonomous District.
Reserves at the Pendomayakhsky site (462 sq.km.), located on the border of the Yamal-Nenets and the Taimyr (Dolgano-Nenets) Autonomous Districts, are estimated at approximately 9.7 million tons.
All of these sites are in the immediate proximity of the Vankor field which Rosneft started developing in 2003. The start of commercial production at the Vankor field is planned for 2008.
Rosneft’s participation and victory at the auctions are part of its consistent strategy to increase its potential through promising reserves in Eastern Siberia. The strategy envisages the integrated development of Eastern Siberian deposits, which will become the main source of raw materials for the strategic export Eastern Siberia — Pacific Ocean pipeline. Oil transported through this pipeline will be sold in countries of the Asian-Pacific region, the economy of which is showing high rates of growth in energy consumption.
Last year, Rosneft significantly increased its assets in Eastern Siberia. For example, a blocking stake was acquired in the project involving the development of the large Verkhnechonsk deposit in the Irkutsk Oblast, with reserves of over 210 million tons of oil and gas condensate, and the right to explore and develop the promising East-Sugdinskoye oil-and-gas site with reserves of 60 million tons of oil, located 100 km. from the Verkhnechonsk deposit.
