A dedicated protocol converter was developed to transmit telemetry information from facilities of Russian Railways, JSC. This protocol converter is intended to ensure data communication between Saratov and Yershov power supply sections of Privolzhskaya (Volga Area) Railway, the branch of Russian Railways, and Grid Control Center of Saratov Distribution Grids, the branch of IDGC of Volga, JSC. Dispatch centers of various production departments will be able to receive the necessary telemetry data as well. Until the development and implementation of new equipment, data communication between power engineers and railway staff posed a serious problem due to incompatible data transmission protocols used by the parties. To fix this problem, specialists of the Department of operational and process control of IDGC of Volga, JSC prepared the Requirements Specification for new hardware and software complex. In compliance with this Requirements Specification, specialist developed a new device that will resolve the problem. Robust telemetry data communication will increase manageability of electric grid complex and speed up response to off-normal events.
