During the first six months of 2015, the personnel of Ulyanovsk Distribution Grids (UDG), a branch of IDGC of Volga, PJSC (a member of Rosseti Group), removed trees and shrubs from the area of rights-of-way exceeding 269 ha, including 197 ha for 110/35 kV high-voltage power lines and 72 ha for 0.6-10 kV distribution grids. Personnel involved in the vegetation management campaign are equipped with hand-held chainsaws, shrub-cutters and special mulcher machinery. Mulching complexes enable to effectively control vegetation at lower labor cost as there is no need for slash disposal. A total of nine mulching complexes are available in the branch. Work teams of the Sengileevskiy, Inzenskiy, Bazarnosyzganskiy, Radishchevskiy and Novospasskiy RES (distribution zones) hold top leadership in clearing rights-of-way corridors. Removal of vegetation and expansion of rights-of-way is one of the stages of preparation of the electric grid facilities for smooth operation in autumn and winter season. Timely and effective vegetation control measures will mitigate the risk of process faults caused by contact of conductive parts of the power transmission lines with tree branches during thunderstorm or strong wind period. Vegetation management campaign will last until the first freeze occurs. Totally, Ulyanovsk DG plan to remove trees and shrubs over an area exceeding 450 ha in 2015. Successful execution of all scheduled works will ensure reliable and smooth power supply to consumers residing in the Ulyanovsk region.
